This winter, we’re inviting City of North Vancouver residents to discover simple ways to stay comfortable at home while reducing energy use. And you could win one of 50 energy saver kits to help make it even easier.

In partnership with the City of North Vancouver, Lonsdale Energy is launching the Hold the Heat campaign to support residents in conserving energy, staying cozy, and making a positive impact on our community.

When we use energy wisely, we can:

• improve our comfort at home,

• help manage heating costs, and

• reduce community emissions.

Small changes really can make a big difference.

Easy Ways to Hold the Heat at Home

Space and water heating account for nearly 80% of household energy use, so even small improvements can meaningfully reduce both energy use and environmental impact.

Here are five simple ways to Hold the Heat this winter:

• Keep baseboards clean. Dusty baseboard heaters can’t circulate warm air properly, leading to more energy use. A quick vacuum helps them work efficiently.
• Keep heat indoors. Close curtains at night, seal window and door drafts, and consider thermal curtain clips or weatherstripping to reduce heat loss.
• Use hot water wisely. Take shorter showers, air dry laundry when possible, and limit dishwasher use to help cut hot water energy use.
• Reverse your ceiling fan. Set fans to spin clockwise at low speed in winter to push warm air down and distribute heat more evenly.
• Try smart, low-effort tools. Dryer balls, low-flow showerheads, sink aerators and draft door stoppers are small upgrades that automatically save energy.
