The community energy system
Community energy (also known as district energy) is a centralized system that produces and distributes thermal energy (heat or cooling) to multiple buildings in a specific area, such as the City of North Vancouver. Rather than each building having its own heating or cooling system, community energy shares thermal energy from centralized plants to meet the needs of all connected buildings.
Our system includes eight energy plants and a 15-km long pipe network connecting over 110 buildings. These include businesses, residential buildings, and public facilities like the North Vancouver City Library, the Shipyards District, Polygon Gallery, Monova, and the John Braithwaite Community Centre.
It is the second-largest community energy system in Metro Vancouver.
