Cleaner energy is coming to North Vancouver
Lonsdale Energy is building a new energy centre this year. Backed by a $17.5 million grant from the federal and provincial governments through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, CleanBC stream, this project introduces an innovative way to serve the community. Daily activities like showering, washing dishes, and doing laundry send large amounts of warm water down the drain. Instead of letting that heat go to waste or flow into the ocean, we turn it into energy for our customers.
The centre is expected to reduce our emissions by about 40% in its first year. That equals roughly 7,600 tonnes of CO₂e each year, or the same as taking 2,700 gas-powered cars off the road.
In addition to building the new centre, the project will also include environmental enhancements to the surrounding area near Mosquito Creek.
