Earthquakes are common in BC. Around 4,000 are recorded in the province each year. While most of these earthquakes are too small to be felt, earthquakes strong enough to cause damage do happen.
The Great BC ShakeOut takes place on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 10:16 a.m. This annual event encourages everyone to practice the DROP-COVER-HOLD ON drill so that they are prepared to respond quickly and safely when they feel shaking or receive an Earthquake Early Warning alert on their phone, TV, or radio.
